Zara's published waist target at 110–116cm is 55cm — a single value with no upward tolerance. Across the six brands we compared at the same height, Zara's 55cm sits below Carter's, Old Navy and Gap Kids, and above only Cat & Jack at 52.7cm. Zara's waist target is genuinely on the lower end of the brands we compared.
What this means in practice depends entirely on where your child's waist sits relative to 55cm. A child below 55cm gets a clean match. A child above 55cm gets no match — there is no upward tolerance on a single published value, so exceeding the target by even a small amount means the garment won't fit correctly at the waist. For the broader portion of children at this height that ceiling is the real problem with Zara, not the number on the label.

The Zara result here reflects an average-build child. The same table for a child with a 56cm or 57cm waist at 112cm would show Zara as a no-match — above the 55cm ceiling with no upward tolerance. That child would match Old Navy, Carter's and Gap Kids but not Zara or Cat & Jack. The "Zara runs small" experience is real for those children. For slimmer builds it is not.
